31.6 Million Bushels of Wheat Expected in 2024

Kentucky farmers are expected to harvest 31.6 million bushels of winter wheat during 2024 according to the Kentucky Field Office of USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service's July 12 report. The expected crop for 2024 would be down 22% from the previous year. Growers expect a yield of 77.0 bushels per acre, down 11.0 bushels from 2023. Farmers seeded 560,000 acres last fall with 410,000 acres to be harvested for grain.

Winter wheat production for the Nation was forecast at 1.34 billion bushels, up 4% from the June 1 forecast and up 7% from 2023. Based on July 1 conditions, the United States yield is forecast at 52.0 bushels per acre, up 0.6 bushels from last month and up 1.4 bushels from last year. The expected area to be harvested for grain or seed totals 25.8 million acres, up 5% from last year.
