2021 Don Halcomb Memorial Scholarship Recipients Announced
The Kentucky Small Grain Growers and Walnut Grove Farms are proud to announce the recipients of the Don Halcomb Memorial Scholarships for Community Leadership Through Agriculture. Two scholarships were offered for $1,000 each, one for a high school senior entering college, and one for a current college student in an undergraduate or graduate program. Applicants were required to be Kentucky residents and pursuing an agriculture or related field at any accredited college, university or trade school. Landon Haile, a pre-veterinary student at Murray State, was selected as the college application winner. The committee appreciated his willingness to get experience away from home, but particularly his desire to return to his home community to start a business after vet school.
Lily Martin, a student in Webster County, was chosen as the High School application winner. The committee appreciated her willingness to get experience away from home, including her desire to study abroad. They were also impressed with her career choice and her founding of the Doll project in her local community. She is planning to study Biochemistry at the University of Alabama.
